Buckland Beacon - N17
Some time ago I read about the boulders inscribed with the words of the 10 Commandments at the foot of Buckland Beacon and wanted to see them for myself. Recently there has been a lot of publicity about them as they were being renovated. When I heard the work had finished I was determined to make the journey to view them.
We parked the car at Cold East Cross and walked the mile across the moor to Buckland Beacon. This was an easy fairly flat walk. At times it is obviously wet, but stepping stones had been placed to help people cross muddy patches. As it has been very dry later the mud had all hardened and we could walk easily across.
Visibility was not good today. We had fantastic views all the way, but they were not that clear, except for the River Teign flowing out to the sea at Teignmouth.
We had planned to continue walking from Buckland Beacon to Buckland in the Moor, but it was a very steep valley and we did not fancy walking back up, so we returned to our car the way we had come.
