Leather Tor (P6)
I had walked to Sharpitor in the past but never gone on to Leather Tor. JH says the views of Burrator are the best from here so we decided to go and see for ourselves.
I parked the car at the foot of Peek Hill. The views from here are spectacular. As I sat drinking my coffee I saw how far Walkhampton Church was from the village. Until we had done the walk between these two squares I had never noticed it.
We walked up to Peek Hill then across to Sharpitor. The views in all directions were magnificent. I could clearly see out to Plymouth Sound as well as the River Tamar and down to Cornwall. From Peek Hill we walked across to Sharpitor. On the way we spotted one of the boundary stones mentioned by JH.
After we clambered across the clitter to the top of Sharpitor we had the views of the Princetown Railway as it wound around Ingra Tor as had been promised in the book.
From Sharpitor we walked across to Leather Tor. You could indeed see more of Burrator Reservoir from here.
We then retraced our steps to get back to our car. This had been an hour's walk with the most wonderful views in all directions.
