Plaster Down (P3), Guide Stones (M3), Gorse (J2) Gibbets Hill (I2)
We were on our way to Brent Tor and thought we would visit the stones mentioned on Plaster Down. As I drove along my husband spotted a milestone and there was a parking space close by. We walked to the stone, which was beside a leat, but we could not make out any of the wording.
We continued on our journey to look for the guide stones near the track to Collaton. As we drove past we saw a large stone, but there was nowhere to park so we continued on our way.
We drove past the turning to the church at Mary Tavy and decided to come back to that another day. We took the road to North Brentor and stopped where Dartmoor 365 said there were the 2 varieties of gorse. Being August there was only one type out Western Gorse.
I did not see any butterflies here but we drove on a short way further and then took the path to Gibbet Hill. On the way up I saw a couple of butterflies.
As promised the views from the top of Gibbet Hill were spectacular. You could see all the way out to Plymouth Sound. Near the top there was quite a lot of heather brightening the ground.
