Castle Drogo, Fingle Bridge and Teign Woods (D16, 17, 18, 19)

We have visited Castle Drogo twice.  On the first occasion, in May 2011, the azaleas were in flower and the gardens were looking magnificent.

Bunty's House
Having explored the gardens we walked down Hunters Path to Fingles Bridge.  The views along the way were spectacular.

To return to Castle Drogo we decided to follow the river on the other side of the bank to the Fishermans Path.  The woods here were full of bluebells and very attractive.  The walk back took much longer than the one going down, with more gradients.  But it was very pleasant walking. (40 mins down, 80 mins back)

When we visited the next time, a couple of months later we went inside Castle Drogo itself and then drove down to Fingles Bridge.  We walked along the river for for about 45 minutes but did not reach the next bridge down. I estimate that we walked the 2 miles as per D 18 and 19.  Not having the D365 book I did not note what birds or flowers I saw en route.  It was a very pleasant walk along a good path and lovely to hear the water rushing down the river all the way.

Having got back to Fingles Bridge we could not resist stopping at the pub for a cream tea which we ate by the side of the river!
