Harford (W11) to Tristis Rock (V11) to New Waste (V10)

Image
We parked the car outside the church in Harford and walked down to Harford Bridge.  There were lots of bluebells out making this a very pretty spot. We continued along the road to the second gate, having been warned that there were bogs and difficult climbing on the lower path to Tristis Rock.  We climbed up towards the moor and there were more bluebells to be seen. Once out onto the moor it was easy to see Tristis Rock and there was a clear path to it. The views from the Rock were far reaching and fantastic. We then made our way down the moor, planning to get to Stalldon Row.  The path we should have taken was not very clear but we headed in the right direction and managed to eventually get to the path leading to the Water Treatment works. The only potential problem we encountered was having to go through a field of cows with their young.  They eyed us suspiciously but let us pass. We saw several hawthorn trees, but n...

Fernworthy Reservoir and Forest (G 12, 13. 14 and H 12)

It was a lovely sunny day and when we arrived at Fernworthy we were blown away by the view. We walked around the reservoir in an anti clockwise direction and not far from the car park we came across the ruins of a stone  house. As we walked down to the dam there was lots of gorse in flower, which contrasted to the blue of the water and sky. After we had crossed to the other side of the reservoir the path was not so good, but fortunately it had dried out enough to make it easy to walk along.  Soon we came to the kistvaen. We continued to walk around the reservoir and when we came to the end of the road we turned up to the Forest.  We walked up the hill, looking for different pine cones.  I found two different ones. We walked up to where there was a path leading to a stone row and circle.  The circle was very clear. We then walked back to the edge of the forest and continued to walk around the reservoir...

W13 Lady Wood Bluebells and W14 Ugborough Beacon

Image
We had visited Lady's Woods some months ago.  Although it was pretty it was nothing special and at the time we decided to return when the bluebells were out as we knew it would look better then.  The bluebells are just beginning to come out at the moment.  In some places there was a blue carpet, but elsewhere there were lots of plants waiting to come into flower.  It made a very pleasant walk around this nature reserve. From Lady's Wood we drove on Wrangton where we parked just outside the golf club.  We walked to the golf club and along the permissive path to the right.  It was very muddy in places.  We evntually cut across the stream and made our way up to Ugborough Beacon.  It was a tiring climb, but the views were spectacular.  At the top, having admired the views and granite formations we headed back to the golf club and picked up a footpath going through the course.  This was a drier path to take.
