Legis Tor (S7)

Image
When we were last out on the moors we attempted to get to Legis Tor by walking up the River Plym from Cadover Bridge.  But after a while the ground became very boggy so we turned back.  Today we thought we would attempt it from Ringmoor Cottage.  We easily got to the Legis Lake that winds around   Legis Tor, meeting an adder on the way. When we came to the crossing point marked on the map we found it was stepping stones.  The water was quite deep and we did not fancy jumping from stone to stone so we again turned back.  This time we were in spitting distance of Legis Tor where the vermin traps were, but it was a case of so near but so far. As we had seen the vermin trap on Trowlesworthy Tor, I felt I was justified in colouring in this square!

Fices Well (M7)

Image
Fices Well before but realised when we got home and consulted the maps that we had not walked far enough.  We walked down the path that was signed Fice Well 800 m.  We walked along the track for 10 minutes then came to another sign post showing Fice Well was to the right.  We walked down to the river where there was a clapper bridge but could not find the Well.  There was a round building, but it did not look like the pictures of the well so we dismissed it.  We were about to give up our search when we decided to check the round wall out.  When we got to it we discovered there were steps to get over the wall and Fices Well in the middle.  The writing on the top stone was not very clear, but something was obviously written there. Round wall surrounding the well.

Little Trowlesworthy Tor (T7)

Image
We had attempted to find the granite flagpole base on Little Trowlesworthy Tor before but had not been successful.  We decided to try again.  We were following the walk in Off The Beaten Track.  We parked at Blackabrook Bridge and walked up to Trowlesworthy Farm.  Having walked around it we headed up to Great Trowlesworthy Tor and started to look for the flagpole base.  To begin with we could not find it , but when we walked on further we came to another tor and there was flagpole base. As we walked back down to Trowlesworthy Farm we came to a vermin trap, but the lid in the middle was missing.

Brisworthy Circle S6

Image
We had previously attempted to find this stone circle by walking from the hamlet of Brisworthy, but we had had to give up.  This time we drove to Ringmoor Cottage on the road above Sheepstor and walked from there across Ringmoor Down to the stone circle.  It was an easy walk with clear grass paths.  The circle looked impressive!
